안녕 (Annyeong)
Sunny Side Up
"Annyeong" is how we say hello in Korean — and also how we say goodbye.
Its deeper meaning is a wish: "Are you well? Are you without trouble?"
The same word for meeting and parting. The same care, both ways.
Like this warm, sunny-side up egg,
may your day be gentle and free from any trouble.
안녕.
만날 때도, 헤어질 때도 우리는 같은 말을 건넵니다.
편안할 안(安), 편안할 녕(寧).
"당신은 편안하십니까, 걱정없이 무탈한가요?"
보릿고개를 넘고, 전쟁을 겪던 시대, 살아남는 것 자체가 간절했던 때에 사람들이 가장 먼저 건넨 말이었다고 합니다.
